This week, we will consider Daniel 1:1-10, as Daniel is taken to Babylon and being prepared to be an advisor to Nebuchadnezzar. He was probably taken as one of a group of hostages along with religious items from the temple to ensure that the king of Judah, Jehoiakim, did not rebel against Babylon. Daniel is a young man put in some of the most difficult circumstances, but yet he purposes in his heart not to defile himself. He makes decisions and takes risks because he had set his heart on following God. We have much easier circumstances. Our society has been informed by the Scriptures. We have the church. But yet, how often are we drawn to sin by the world because we are not setting our heart on the things of God. May God give us the grace to follow Him rather than being conformed to this world.
