Following the heavenly scene that focuses on God the Creator on His throne (Ch. 4), John was given a more specific vision of God the Redeemer, and His right to open the heavenly scroll (Ch. 5). This carefully guarded document, located in the hand of the One sitting upon the exalted throne, is very comprehensive, having been written on both the inside and the outside. Part one ended with the spotlight on Jesus Christ - resurrected, crucified, omnipotent and omniscient - He now approaches the throne and takes the scroll. A vast multitude in heaven responds with verbal and active worship as they recognize that He is worthy to take the scroll and to break the seals. He alone was slain and purchased with His own blood people from all walks of life. Redeemed believers will now serve in His kingdom as priests, reigning with Christ, because of His sacrifice. His worth is described in minute detail, and He is genuinely worshiped by His creatures.
