Note: This sermon was delivered immediately following Pastor's presentation of his original, black-light, 4 feet by 8 feet, acrylics-on-felt painting of a beautiful pink and gold rose ... Pastor begins his discrete look at this sensitive book by quoting several poems about roses. He then turns to Isaiah 35:1 and proceeds to challenge some of our Western preconceptions of what exactly the "rose of Sharon" of the Holy Land may have been. He continues by tackling the question of the identity of the major figures of the book. In so doing, he "messes with" some of our "warm fuzzy" notions about the book. Question: Do you really think the idolatrous King Solomon who had 700 wives and 300 concubines is a fitting "picture" of our impeccable, pure King Jesus?
