Jesus fasted for 40 days and the devil said nothing. But afterward, when He was an hungred, the devil made his move. When He was desperately in need, and ready to die for lack of what he needed, that is when the devil tempted him to put God to the test. When we are being tried is not the time for us to try God, it is the time for us to trust God. The tempter's voice will suggest God has abandoned you and you will perish if you do not put your hand to it and do something about it yourself. We do not COMMAND God, we TRUST God and if we perish, we perish. That is faith and that is how we overcome temptation.
