Jeremiah 39: 17: Jeremiah and Ebedmelech 1. His oppression, 38:1-6 2. His rescue, 38:10-13 3. His comfort, 39:17-18
1. His oppression We live after Easter. We see parallels between Jeremiah and Ebed Meleg on the one hand, and the way of suffering and resurrection of Christ. God' s Word is dividing: people are listening to it either opposing it. God' s Word is being afflicted: Jeremiah is suffering.
2. His rescue Jeremiah is in the pit. Lamentations 3 gives an impression of his situation. God uses Ebed Melech to help Jeremiah. Who is Ebed Melech? Ebed Melech is willing. Ebed Melech is caring.
3. His comfort Jeremiah is out of the pit, but still imprisoned. How is Ebed-Melech by now? Ebed Melech is afraid: his enemies are alive. Ebed Melech is encouraged. God has a Word for him!
