Summary, Part 4 (final) 3. TO THOSE WHO MAKE LIGHT OF THE SINS OF OTHERS [46:15]. The lost may make light of their own sin; let that not influence us. Homosexuals were once laughed at; now they’re mainstream. To laugh at sin is to undermine one’s Christian credibility. 4. TO THOSE WHO CARE LITTLE FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF GOD’S HONOR [48:55]. Those who love God love His law. If we are not jealous of God's glory, we may not have His saving grace. 5. TO THOSE WHO FEEL LITTLE GRIEF OVER THE ETERNAL DESTINY OF THE LAWLESS [49:35]. Let us remember God’s punishment of them. B. A WORD OF EXHORTATION [51:05]. The men’s grief caused them to weep and pray for the lost. The Bible joins a broken heart to a bent knee. We must mourn that which we cannot mend. We must mourn all sin, not just that of the lost, but that of the church and our own. C. A WORD OF INVITATION TO THE LAWLESS [54:05]. EZEKIEL 33:11 – God pleaded through Ezekiel as He did through His Son. Note: God didn't give the law to save, but to convict and to bring to repentance. ISAIAH 55:6-7 – God is not an ogre, but a tender God who pleads and offers abundant life.

Summary, Part 3 D. BEHOLD EZRA’S LAMENT OVER ISRAEL’S MARITAL INFIDELITY [30:55]. EZRA 9:2 – Ezra counted himself among the guilty around him, much as Jesus would do for all of us. We will never understand Ezra's grief if we blame our nation's fallenness on otherw whike exonorating ourselves. E. BEHOLD PAUL’S GRIEF OVER ISRAEL’S UNBELIEF [36:40]. ROMANS 9:1-3 – Paul echoes Jesus, who became a curse for His people. Israel was blessed more than any other people, yet was blind. F. BEHOLD JESUS WAILING OVER REPROBATE SINNERS [40:10]. No one grieved for the lost more than the Lord. MARK 3:5 – Though the Jews sought to tempt Him, they aroused His grief for them in doing so. LUKE 19:41ff – He wept for the ones who put Him in Barabbas’ place. Those who tread the pearl of the Gospel merit our grief. IV. ABIDING MESSAGES: A. A WORD OF REPROOF [44:35] 1. TO THOSE WHO THINK LITTLE ABOUT THE EVIL OF THEIR OWN SINS [44:45]. We can’t grieve for the sins of others without grieving our own sins. 2. TO THOSE WHO ARE CARELESS ABOUT OTHERS’ SINS [45:35]. MATTHEW 24:12 – “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” We must not harden to the sin in our midst.

Summary, Part 2 B. LOVE FOR THE LAWLESS [16:00]. Righteous indignation is perfectly compatible with pity and compassion. Zeal without love degenerates quickly into self-righteous indignation. When they don’t grieve for their own fate, it is holy for us to grieve for them. PHILIPPIANS 3:18 – the Gospel not only changes our hearts toward God, but also toward the lost. God sees sin as the greatest evil there is. After all, He gave His perfect Son because of it. Do we see sin this way? III. WHERE IN OUR BIBLES DO WE FIND EXPRESSIONS OF GRIEF [19:45]? A. BEHOLD LOT’S TORMENT OVER SODOM’S PERVERSITY [20:05]. 2 PETER 2:7-8 – Though he dwelt among them, Lot grieved for their behavior. B. BEHOLD SAMUEL’S BROKEN HEART OVER SAUL’S REBELLION [23:15]. 1 SAMUEL 15:11, 33-16:1 – he was devastated by the Lord’s regret over appointing Saul. But God eventually urged Samuel to take his eyes off of Saul and put them on the coming king David. C. BEHOLD JEREMIAH WEEPING OVER JUDAH’S HARDHEARTEDNESS [27:10]. JEREMIAH 9:1, 13:17 – Jeremiah wept out of moral strength and courage.

Summary, Part 1 Our country's recent history has been one of wholesale rebellion against God. Some call this era "post-Christian America." In the mid-1960s, two-thirds of Americans believed the Bible to be true. By the mid-1990s, two-thirds of Americans believed that there is no absolute truth. PSALM 119:136 - David grieved the lawlessness of his nation, as should every American Christian today. I. WHAT MOTIVATES CHRISTIANS TO GRIEVE OVER THE LAWLESSNESS OF THE WICKED [starting at 7:50 of the audio]? A. CHRISTIANS LOVE GOD’S LAW [8:05]. God’s law is not just necessary for social stability, but for the believer’s benefit and joy. We prosper and know true peace by God’s law. B. CHRISTIANS LAMENT THE TERRIBLE EFFECTS OF THE LAWLESSNESS OF THE WICKED [9:55]. PSALM 13:15 – “Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.” God is the enemy of the lawless, and they know it in their conscience. II. WHAT PRODUCES THIS GRIEF IN CHRISTIANS [11:25]? A. JEALOUSY FOR GOD’S GLORY [11:40]. We don’t like our Father to be ridiculed. Our heavenly Father is without sin; He deserves no contempt nor ridicule. Moses, a meek man, smashed the tablets when he saw the Hebrews worshiping the golden calf. Like Joshua, he also pleaded with God to not destroy His people for the sake of His glory.
