In this passage we are confronted with one of the strangest scenes in all the bible. A man is lying dead on a road and by him stands a lion and a donkey -- both stationary -- just standing there. The lion does not eat the body. The donkey does not flee and is not attacked by the lion. This strange event bore witness to the fact that God's word is never to be taken lightly or exchanged for a more agreeable word that suits our desires. It tells us that God preserves the truth of His word even when those entrusted with it are compromised. God judged His young prophet for defying His word even as He would judge Israel for defying His word. In the process an old prophet is revived in his faith and now knows that God cares more for the holiness of His name and for the holiness of His people than he had ever imagined. God's love is such that He wants us to care for these things as much as He does. For this reason there is always the Lion of Judah on the Road!
