Peter is addressing the Jewish believers who were forced to flee Jerusalem, when a great persecution began on the day that Stephen was stoned to death. After stating the wonderful things that the believer has been given in Christ, we now see that these things are the foundation for our rejoicing in the Lord always, even when we are experiencing the various trials of living as believers in a hostile world. God's word speaks of the glories to follow, and here we look at how an understanding of living in the time of the glories to follow is to shape our lives for the rest of our days here on earth. As members of the family of God, we are to be obedient to the holy standards of our new family. Here we begin to look at God's call to each believer, to our new life in Christ. Our Lord wants us to know that we are now children of God and as His family we are to live according to the Father's will for His children, and that there is a day coming when each of us will be called to stand before the judgment seat of Christ. All unbelievers who do not have eternal life will stand with the spiritually dead of all time at the great white judgment throne. Continuing on we look at the cost of our redemption. Nothing but the blood of Jesus Christ, shed as He bore our sins on the cross, could be adequate for our salvation. It is the highest price ever paid for anything and the highest price possible. This blood of Christ, on our behalf should motivate us to live our lives as those redeemed, to please Him Whom the Father foreknew and sent to be our Savior.
