The Greatness of the Good Shepherd John 10:14-15
Introduction: 1. In John 10 Jesus warns against the danger of strangers… 2. He teaches the importance of being a sheep… 3. He speaks of Himself as the “Good Shepherd” a theme, which should have been very familiar to the people of Israel… see Genesis 48:15 cf. Psalm 23:1 with Psalm 80:1-2
Consider in preparation for the Lord’s Supper two great things, which Jesus identifies about Himself—“The Good Shepherd…”
I. He Knows His Own Sheep, vs. 14 A. He knows our every need and weakness… B. We are prone to wander… C. Sinners who are saved by grace own and confess their shortcomings…
Observation:
D. This knowledge of His for us is comforting but not always pleasurable…
Lesson:
II. He Lays Down His Own Life for the Sheep, vs. 15 A. He Actually died for us… B. It was a Voluntary and Sacrificial death…
