Gideon might have thought the Lord was making fun of Him. He says, “I am the lowest person, in the lowest tribe….” What’s your excuse? Why did the Lord choose Gideon? Because he was the lowest person from the lowest tribe. The Midianites were not the problem. Their own actions and lack of faith were the problem. What about your life? Maybe what you think is the problem is not the problem. Maybe the Midianites are not the problem. Maybe your finances are not the problem. Maybe your job is not the problem. Maybe your marriage issues are not the problem. Maybe those things are just a result of the problem. The oppression of the Midianites was the result of their disobedience and lack of faith. Gideon’s doubts were due to his eyes being on himself and his circumstances and not on the Lord. What’s your excuse? As is often the case, the Lord picks the least of these…….. So God has Gideon tear down the altar of Baal, there is a fleece, and Gideon gets ready to take on the Midianites….
