David and Solomon are often seen as types of the Lord Jesus, but nonetheless flawed, for none can adequately depict the glory of our Redeemer!
God promised to David to build him an house, and that of his sons God would appoint an eternal kingdom. Solomon fulfills many of the promises made to David, but only the Son of God fills them all to perfection.
Solomon's reign was glorious - his land prospered, his people lived in peace and happiness, and his great wisdom was on display for all to benefit from.
The Queen of Sheba came to test Solomon, and ended exclaiming, "the half has not been told!"
Most telling, she also declared that God loved Solomon and the people of Israel, as shown in the fact that He gave to the land such a wise king.
Our land was once led by men of wisdom and virture, but no more. Instead, we seem overrun with knaves and fools as leaders. Whenever a wise man steps forward, the people reject him.
Perhaps the Lord is judging our land by denying us the benefit of wise and noble leaders.
But what a blessing is our Lord Jesus to us! God has exalted Him to be our Prince and our Savior! One far wiser than Solomon is set to lead His people to glory, and to rule the entire world in His coming reign.
What an enlightened, happy, and prosperous reign our Lord will preside over. And yet, rebels will rise against Him at the end, but to no avail, for they will be destroyed utterly.
As His people, we have received something far better than that reign we long to see - we have received salvation by the death of our Prince in our place. Imagine, the one far exceeding Solomon went to the cross in our place and purchased our redemption! |
