In this passage, Jesus teaches by word through parables----one about hiding lamps; one about the slow steady growth of the seed of the Word in the human heart; and one about the amazing growth of the church from very tiny beginnings. Then Jesus teaches by deed. Crossing with His disciples to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, Jesus, after a long day of ministry, is asleep in the stern, when a great storm arises. Fearful for their lives as their boat takes on water, the disciples awake Jesus with a rebuke. "Don't you care that we're about to perish." Jesus simply commands the wind and the waves to be still, and immediately, there's a great calm. The disciples feared greatly----"What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!"
