In 2 Corinthians 6, Paul will speak of himself and his colleagues as “servants” of God. Yes, Jesus is the Servant of the LORD – and Paul will use Isaiah 53 to speak of what Jesus did for us – Jesus is the innocent suffering servant – who became sin for us, so that we might become (in him) the righteousness of God. And because Jesus is the Servant of the LORD therefore those who are called to be servants of God in the ministry of reconciliation must exhibit the characteristics of the suffering servant.
