Baptist History is storied one of intrigue and deceit murder and a propagation of lies laid at the feet of innocent Christians who would not compromise the Word of God. You can find the line of Baptist adherents that traces itself all the way back to the Apostles of Jesus Christ. Peter speaks of those in the Diaspora in 1 Peter. Those who fled persecution and hid in the valleys who became known as the Vaudois. Later they were known as the Waldensians and the Lollards and the Wickliffites. They were the Hussites and the Ana-Baptist who were persecuted because of the purity of the doctrines with which they held to. They refused to bring their infants to Roman Catholic tradition or Protestant rule. It was not until the year 1649 when the Maryland Toleration act was signed into law that the Baptist had freedom to publicly proclaim their faith. The First Baptist to write their beliefs down were the Particular Baptist, who were Calvinistic, and they wrote the 1st London Baptist confession in 1644, to show their substantial unity with the Protestants in doctrine and faith. After the toleration act, they revised their confession and published it under the 1689 2nd London Baptist Confession, which is still held to by many Baptist today.
