These two verses teach us about an important and often neglected aspect of prayer, though it must be balanced by Christ's teaching on prayer in Matthew 6. With respect to our weakness, these verses underline other important theological points, namely, the need for us to be utterly dependent upon God for all things and to trust only in His word to guide us in all things. Although the Holy Spirit enables us to understand and do God's will, that will is defined by Scripture and thus the Spirit does not attempt to guide us independently of God's word.
