The Bible shows a theme of generosity and giving from the beginning with God all the way to His greatest gift with Christ. In an outpouring of gratitude, God's people have responded with giving back to Him. Like when the Israelites gave so much to the construction of the tabernacle that moses had to command them to stop giving. Or when Zaccheus repented from making money his god and gave half of all he owned and repaid those whom he cheated fourfold at turning to Christ. The widow at the treasury giving her last cent shows that sometimes giving will be felt. If this Christian life never costs you then ask yourself why. Jesus celebrates her trust in God's provision. The Macedonian church was poor but eagerly provided beyond the expectations of Paul for the Jerusalem church. He said grace is the motivation for our giving. Grace FROM God and grace TO others. When it comes to giving we often make up imaginary giving scenarios: "if I only had this or that I would finally give." But he who is faithful in little is faithful in much and the one stingy in little will be stingy in much according to Jesus. Because you and I have forgiveness of sins, we're loved and chosen, and we will never go to hell. We will never be separated from God. You and I will have all we need not for a short time but for eternity. God has opened up limitlessness to us in Christ. How could we not give when He gave so much?
