The way the Lord measures wealth. James tells us it is not outward but inward. It is not material but spiritual. It is not having but giving.
Jesus pointed this out in one of His most moving stories. He depicts a man who by all outward appearances was a successful man.
Luke 12:20-23 'But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?' So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. Then He said to His disciples, 'Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing.'
