Whatever we do or say, we have to live with the rest of our life. God gave us a conscience that troubles us when we even think of doing wrong to help us keep from ruining our lives. However, under the influence of temptation we rationalize and justify ourselves and go ahead over the protests of our conscience, and tell that lie, or steal that thing, or commit that immoral act, and only then do we realize the awful consequences. Paul said his rejoicing was based upon his clear conscience. Our life will not be one of rejoicing and happiness unless we take care to maintain a clear conscience before God and man.
