Jesus' words brought down trouble on his head. The religious people became furious as they endured his God-centred speech. Jesus didn't only speak, he also authorized other men to speak for him. Today, however, there are many people who claim to be apostles, like Jesus' apostles. These modern "apostles" seem to find their so-called apostleship to make life convenient and comfortable for themselves. They seriously don't seem to resemble the New Testament apostle in any way. They are very different. When these people claim to be apostles, what do they mean? Do they mean that they are general messengers, or do they mean they are apostles in the same way that Jesus' apostles were apostles? Jesus' apostles were not ordinary men, they had a specific and God-given function. They were sent out as Jesus himself. They even witnessed Jesus actual life, death, resurrection and ascension. Who, we should ask, meets these criteria? Do modern "apostles" match up? By way of illustration, if you met a person who had never seen a lion, and you dressed a donkey up as a lion, you might fool them into thinking they had seen a lion. But a person who has seen a real lion, would never be fooled. In the same way, if you have seen the biblical requirements for apostleship, and the actual words and deeds of the apostles of the Bible, you will not be fooled by false apostles. You do not need to fear modern apostles.
