As we think on Memorial Day, we have many thoughts. From the common thoughts on the weather, business and activities, to the more sober ones on war and the price paid for our national freedom. As wonderful as national freedom is, there is something infinitely better, freedom from the Judgment of God and freedom with God. Just as our National freedom wasn't free, our Spiritual freedom wasn't free. There are a lot of parallels for us to think about today. Just as it is easy to look back and to honor those who fought it is easy to look back and honor Christ with our lips. What is hard is choosing today, what does standing for freedom mean? What sacrifice is required today? This is both nationally and spiritually. Christ here teaches on our Christian freedom. But it isn't a freedom to Sin, it has a cost for us as well. This cost doesn't buy us our freedom, it doesn't maintain it, but it is what we are called to do with it. (It is where our freedom is. You might be a US citizen, but if you move to another country, you lose your use of your American Rights and Laws. You are living under someone else's laws. In certain situations, if you join another countries army, you can lose your citizenship. No example is perfect, but this comes close to what Christ was talking about.) Lets look at what Christ means when he speaks of Freedom.
