A Personal Encounter with St. Mercy Hospital Series: The Summertime Slump May 24, 2020 / 1 Sivan 5780 Mark 5:1-2,22-23,25-26 This series captures the attention of those who are feeling the heaviness of the summer, whether due to social upheaval, the responsibilities that increase as the help decreases, the stress of keeping up with the family down the street, meeting the day to day needs in your family and their big summer plans of not being able to do anything, or past experience of difficult summers. We will meet some people from the Bible who have fallen into a slump, and then see how God meets them in their lowest moments. God provides what we need in hard seasons like what we are experiencing in the world today with this virus. I have had some past days that are trying to catch up with me. This is a summer like no other that we are experiencing, and our faith should be growing stronger but there are summer slumps from the past and current that brings down to the lows in our physical life. When we find ourselves in a slump, needing support to conquer a task or endure a hard season, we can find help among God's people. If we ourselves don't need support at the moment, then let's look to our left and right to see who among us needs the help. Hard moments and hard seasons come and go in life. This is guaranteed. But God also promises to be our provider, the lifter of our heads, our encourager in those times. Often, he uses the body of Christ—the very believers we share a sanctuary with—to meet those needs. Jesus notices the bent over and broken, the tired and exhausted, and meets them at their point of need. Desperate times require risky moves.
