There is a wonderful connection between faith and joy. Jesus, who is the founder and perfecter of our faith, endured the cross for the joy that was set before him. That joy is not something that we only admire from a distance and try to emulate but is the joy that we know for ourselves as we live in the faith he has perfected for us. The joy that sustained Jesus as he endured the cross is the same joy that sustains us now in the struggle against sin so that we may not grow weary or fainthearted. As we look to Jesus our awareness of his gift of joy grows and we are equipped to run with endurance the race that is set before us. Let us then do as the writer of Hebrews instructs and "consider him" (Jesus) trusting him in all things that his joy may be fulfilled in us.
