As we hear what Habakkuk heard and saw as he waited on his watchtower, we also will see that God is sovereign over all things and is bringing all things together, even the wickedness and arrogance of the Chaldeans. All things serve his ultimate purpose - that "the whole earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea."
In the midst of what must have been such dark days, and no less, our own, God's people are to read and know - "Behold the proud, his soul is not upright in him (...utter shame will come upon his glory...); but the righteous shall live by his faith." What comfort and rest we can have in knowing that our life and salvation are not dependent on our own efforts, but on the grace of God, our Rock, and Jesus Christ his Son. And so we can go on, even in times of great trial, waiting, resting, living! ... in Christ, who is our righteousness.
