Throughout the length of God's dealing with Israel, leading up to the coming of the Messiah there was a particular theme, found with the very makeup of the twelve tribes of Israel, that the Redeemer and King of the people of God would be a royal figure who would rise out of the tribe of Judah. This King would be a lion, a powerful and noble figure who no one could stand against and who would rule not only in righteousness over His people, but the whole entire world. This particular theme within the manifestation of God's covenant with His people was reflected in ever increasing symbolic clarity the closer we get to the one whose throne continues even down to today, the throne of David, and within that line, the Messiah, the Son of David. Christ the Lion, the one who is Protector and Deliverer shows His hand in a public and powerful way even in the life Samson who brings death to the lion of Philistia, and pulls honey from its dead carcass, for out of the remains of the pagan nations, God will bring forth a people out darkness and death and into His kingdom of life and rest.
