The verses we cover in this sermon are by nature very difficult. We take each verse and each important issue that arises from it and explain what is clear, what is disputed and how what we can learn applies to our lives now. We also explain what divorce was understood in both Judaism and Greco-Roman culture. Today we have even more complications because many "Christian" marriages come from compromised churches which do not have Biblical standards. Paul deals with mixed marriages where a conversion causes a Christian spouse to be married to an unbeliever. Paul urges that marriages be kept together as possible. In the process he uses the term "holy" in an unusual way that does not denote "saved." We explain that in the sermon. Issues such as the Christian being abandoned by the unbeliever, the children of such marriages, the desired outcome of salvation, and many other issues are addressed in this sermon. In the end we point to the need have grace to live godly Christian lives in a pagan culture.
