Every spring I preach an historical sermon. My purpose is doing so is two fold.
First, as Christians we stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before us. It is important to understand that the same struggles we face in preaching the gospel today are no different from those who have come before.
Second, It is important to know that the gospel we preach today is the same gospel that has been preached through the ages.
In this sermon, Richard Baxter examines how people reject Christ. they make light of Him. That means they do not treat Christ with utmost importance and reverance.
"Beloved, I come not to accuse any of you particularly of this crime; but seeing it is the most common cause of men's destruction, I expect you will judge it the most important matter for our inquiry. To that end I will, 1) endeavor to convict the guilty, 2) I shall give them many considerations that will humble them, and 3) I shall conclude with directions that may help them that are willing to escape the destroying power of sin."
