Some say his wife was already a fallen woman, others think it was not until after she married. Whatever the case, v3 says she,"bare HIM a son." It seemed to be a happy marriage at this time.It is important that the matter of marriage is prayed about.
2. THE MISERY HOSEA SUFFERED
Things begin to go wrong-in v 6,8 we read she bare a daughter, and son, but no mention of baring it to "him" as we saw in verse 3.Some think she had these children to other men.
God chooses the names of these children as an object lesson to Israel of His displeasure with them.
Gomer's consequences-she found herself in the slave market-this is where sin leads people-wreck and ruin.
Serves as a warning to husbands and wives-take care what you watch, hear and where you go.
3. THE MERCY HOSEA DISPLAYED
Did not seek divorce but restoration, even in her infidelity. He pleaded his children to plead with her. He was willing to bankrupt himself to buy her back. A slave was 30 pieces of silver, but he had only 15 and he made it up with barley.
4. THE MESSAGE HOSEA'S CIRCUMSTANCES ENACTED
Here is the message-God comes to the slave market looking for you and me. Hosea bankrupted himself-the Lord Jesus left Heaven and took the form of a man to go to the Cross to set captives free.
Hosea was told to seek her BEFORE she repented. The Lord sought us long before we heard.
What love! Will you receive Him now?
God can also heal broken marriages.
