Acts 7:17-37 – Stephen before the Sanhedrin (part 2) – Sermon Outline Intro: God's covenant promises to Abraham unfold as He had said, through the means of Israel multiplying in Egypt and coming under bondage to a harsh King/Pharaoh who did not know and favor Joseph/his people. Need: Stephen defends himself before the Jewish Sanhedrin court tracing the covenant back to Abraham, and syncs together many themes of the Bible, all streaming and culminating in Christ. Now he shows God is with Moses in each of the 3 stages of his life/ministry, even in Egypt and Midian, apart from the holy Temple & land. Theme: God is holy and hallows His people and land when, where, and how He wishes.
1. Baby Moses is hallowed to become Israel's deliverer, but they reject him even as they multiply. (17-29) 2. The ground and bush are hallowed by Christ's appearing to Moses to appoint him Israel's deliverer. (30-37) |
