Many inside and outside the church are skeptical of the message of God's wrath against sin and His resulting judgment against sinners. They say that the Old Testament God is a God of wrath but the New Testament God is a God of love and peace. Today's passage not only portrays the judgment that will come to Israel soon after Ezekiel proclaimed it, but is a sign of a much more profound judgment to come that all sinners will face, unless covered by the blood of Christ. Doubters of this should look at Hebrews 9:27, and in passages in which Jesus describes His mission such as Matthew 10:35 and Luke 12:49, as just a few of many examples.
