This sermon begins, 'Let's all sing the Rolling Stones hit, 'I Can't Get No Satisfaction.'' (We didn't.)
The point is, what Biblical reason do you have for not singing it in worship? Because it doesn't mention Jesus Christ? Neither do the Psalms. Shall we exclude the Psalms from worship? Because it's a rock song? Lots of churches have rock songs. What Biblical arguments do you have to exclude them from worship?
Worship is the most important thing we do. The question we must ask ourselves (and our church leaders) is: Who determines how we are to worship the Lord?
There are only two choices: We decide, or He decides.
When reduced to this essential question, the answer is obvious. We are to search the Scriptures to find out how the Lord wants us to worship Him. We are clearly not supposed to make up our own worship. That's what pagans do.
Does God's Word permit churches to design their own 'worship styles,' such as traditional, blended, contemporary, country, rock, Gen X, etc.?
Should you attend such services?
Do you believe you have the courage to follow the Lord's will rather than modern trends, no matter what it costs you?
If so, this sermon may strengthen you.
