This week we continue looking at the 'Sermon on the Plain' in Luke 6:27-38. Here, Jesus teaches a new (and true) interpretation of Leviticus 19:18 - "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" - we are to love our enemies also! We are to pray for them and bless them, treating them as we wish others would treat ourselves.
Where do we find the heart and resources to do this? From God, the Most High, our heavenly Father, who is himself kind to the ungrateful and the evil. As his children, who have received such love from him ourselves, even when we were his enemies, we represent our Father, and are to 'uphold the same family values' so to speak. We are to be merciful, even as he is merciful. Such is the way of the Father, and so too is the true way for his children.
