Paul charged the Corinthians, "Look at what is before your eyes" (v. 7). Consider the spiritual evidence that is clearly present. If the false teachers claimed to be Christ's, Paul claimed the same. They used boasting to demonstrate their superiority; therefore, Paul determined that he, too, would use the same. The motivation for this foolishness, Paul asserted, was the spiritual welfare of the Corinthian church, not his personal vindication. Although he found it necessary to use this approach, he remained confident that the testimony of Christ was confirmed among them and that God's faithfulness would sustain them to the end.
