No man apart from Jesus Christ has made more impact on the world for Christianity than the Apostle Paul.
Paul was a zealous Jew prior to his conversion who was originally known as Saul. We first meet Saul in the New Testament in Acts 7.
In Acts 7 Saul is present at the death of Stephen. Stephen was the first Christian martyr recorded in the Bible.
Saul was not content to persecute Christians who were just in Jerusalem but he wanted to rid Christians of other places as well.
In Acts 9 we find this zealous Jew on his way to Damascus to persecute Christians there.
In Acts 9 The Lord Jesus intervenes in His life to bring Saul the persecutor down into the dust.
The Lord reveals His name as Jesus. Jesus means: Saviour. It was a name given to the Lord when He came to this earth because he came to save humanity from their sins.
All Saul's religious achievements were worthless as far as salvation was concerned.
There is a danger in Christian circles that some people are placing their faith in their religious activities for their salvation rather than Christ.
There are plenty of people that you can meet in Australia that have undergone a religious ceremony in a Church… that they equate with salvation…. and they miss out on salvation in Christ alone.
I hear people say that I made a commitment when I was 12. I walked forward at a Crusade. I prayed the prayer that I was given. I was baptized when I was a child, I was confirmed at such an age. You can do all those things and not be saved.
The Good News of the Gospel is that God was committed to us in sending His Son to this sin filled world to die on the cross at Calvary.
