This being the Sunday following the coronation of King Charles III, I thought it would be appropriate to remind ourselves of the Kingdom that cannot be moved. Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews came by night to Christ with an inquiry. The Lord answered him in a way that we might think was somewhat strange. But if we understand the mindset of the Jews at that time, sadly the same mindset that is prevelent among many Evangelicals today, then we can see why he was answered in this fashion. People of this mindset cannot even see, that is understand, nor enter the Kingdom of God unless first quickened by the Holy Spirit. The Lord did not go into detail. He informed Nicodemus of the necessity of the New Birth and left him to be brought to understanding by the Holy Spirit. That he was so enlightened is indicated by the fact that he stood up for Christ amongst his peers and, with Joseph of Arimathaea, placed Christ in the tomb.
