We cannot grow physically without nourishment, exercise, and discipline. Neither can Christians mature without continually feeding on God’s Word, applying it to their lives, and exercising their spiritual giftedness. The Apostle Paul challenged young Timothy to be an example to others in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity. But how does any believer become such an example? " . . . Give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Do not neglect the gift that is in you . . .” (1 Timothy 4:13-14 NKJV). As Timothy meditated on God’s truth, applied it to his own life, and embraced the ministry God had given to him, he would become an example worth following! The same is true for us. Unless there is an inflow of truth, and an outflow of service, we tend to stagnate as Christians.
