Israel was God's chosen people. They were to only have him as their God and if they obeyed him as he required, he would forever provide all things that they would need. But, we all know that they would not keep themselves purely for God, and therefore, before they have even entered into the promised land, God addresses them and instructs them how they are to deal with each other when someone commits themselves to servitude out of need. Also, they were commanded to redeem their family member from slavery when possible. We will see the wonderful picture of Christ's redemption of us as we dive into this scripture.
