We must realize that we did not choose God, God chose us from before the beginning and we had nothing to do with it. But because we are a child of God, we now have those things before us that we should do to show what it means to love and follow Christ Jesus. We should do everything we can to grow more like Jesus every day through prayer, studying the Scriptures and loving our fellow believers.
