We continue through the Book of Acts this morning with the second missionary of journey. We see the human element with Paul & Barnabus's disagreement as well as Paul & Silas's desire to preach in some areas only to be forbidden by the Holy Spirit to go there. Above all, we see the leading and the Holy Spirit once again, leading us to give all the praise to God!
1. ALMOST FAILURE TO LAUNCH: "let us return...visit...and see how they are" (15:36–41) o Desire (v. 36) o Disagreement (vv. 37–39a) > Barnabus wanted John/Mark but Paul disagreed
o Departure (vv. 39b–40) > Barnabus took John/Mark by sea to Cyprus > Paul took Silas overland through Syria & Cilicia > Yet, note the way in which they left (v. 40) > And note the results of the ministry (v. 41) > "strengthening" (14:22, 15:32, 16:5, 18:23) ... how? (Rom. 1:11, 16:25; Eph. 3:16, 18; Col. 1:11)
2. BACK TO DERBE & LYSTRA: "Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra" (16:1–5) o "a disciple...named Timothy/Timotheos" (vv. 1–2) o "Paul...circumcised him because of the Jews" (v. 3) o "they delivered to them for observance the decisions that had been reached by the apostles and elders" (v. 4) > Note the results again (v. 5) > "strengthened" and 'increased" (arithmos)
3. ONTO MACEDONIA: "concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them" (16:6–10) o "through the region of Phrygia and Galatia" (v. 6)..."to Mysia" (v. 7)..."to Troas" (v. 8)..."into Macedonia" (v.10) o "forbidden by the Spirit to speak the word in Asia"(v. 6)..."they attempted to go into Bithynia but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them" (v. 7) o "avision...in the night...'Come over to Macedonia and help us'" (v. 9)
