After the first four trumpets are blown a huge winged creature declares "Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth." God then instructs angels to blow trumpets to declare his first of two "woes" on the inhabitants of the earth. Even though people are troubled by what John describes as "locusts" (more like pests) for five months and then a third of the remaining population of the earth is killed by pestilence, no one repents!
