There is quite a “turning of the tables” between chapter five and chapter six. In the former chapter, the Spouse seems desperate to enlist the aid of others to find her Beloved, who has disappeared (5:6-8). In chapter six, she suddenly tells the “daughters of Jerusalem” where her Beloved could be found. How could she tell them the whereabouts of her Bridegroom when she herself was seeking Him? It appears that the emotional catharsis she experienced by verbalizing his praise (5:10-16) helped to heal her keen sense of estrangement from Him. Perhaps now in her dream the knowledge of his whereabouts popped into her mind. At any rate there is a joint seeking of the Bridegroom by both the Bride and strangers. It will certainly do our own souls good to witness of Christ our Beloved to others and to lead them to Him.
