What happened? Well, the people were frightened by what they heard and saw. They removed and stood afar off. Then they said to Moses, “Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.” Moses said unto them: “Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.” The people continued standing afar off, whereas Moses went into the think darkness where God was, presumably to receive the rest of the Law. What may we learn from this development? We may learn three lessons:
1. God should be feared 2. God need not be feared 3. God is to be feared
