In this passage we hear Christ's message to the 3rd of 7 churches - the church in Pergamum. In a similar form as for other churches, Christ has both commendation and condemnation for this church. They are holding fast to the faith in a city dedicated to pagan worship. In spite of that faith, they have some among them in the church that hold to teachings that are contrary to the true gospel that they have received. They are on the slippery slope of compromise and Christ will not allow that in His church. Repentance is required to avoid His judgment.
