There are many people today, even amongst professing Christians, who believe that preaching, witnessing and distributing tracts in public is somehow 'unchristian' and that doing so is simply an irritating habit of modern fundamentalists. They claim that Christians should keep their message to themselves and never preach or witness outside of the four walls of their church buildings.
The Bible as well as subsequent Christian history, however shows us that the gospel is something that prophets, apostles, and evangelists carried to the people, and that preaching and witnessing was often done in public places.
Therefore when Christians preach and distribute literature in public they are following both the explicit commands of Christ and the Apostles.
To expect that unbelievers will somehow decide to come to church in order to hear a message they despise is vain and absurd. If they are going to hear the gospel, then like Jonah in Nineveh or Paul in Athens, we must bring it to them.
