Before God's People enter into the Promised Land, Moses reminds them that it is being given to them solely out of God's GRACE. They are told explicitly that it is not being given to them because they are righteous, because they aren't, in fact they are told explicitly that they are a sinful and stiff-necked people.
But in this lesson we are taught something more important, both possession of Canaan and the heavenly country that Canaan was but a type of are not things we work for and earn, they are free gifts of God's grace. Let us not forget where we were when God found us or think that because we have obtained that grace, that we have earned it, or were somehow worthy of receive it!
