In this passage, we see the enemies of Christ present an apparent quandary to our Lord, simply to trap Him. Under the guise of asking for help, the Pharisees and scribes ask our Lord how to prosecute a woman caught in adultery. In our Lord's wise response, we see Him both uphold the Law of Moses and yet extend compassion and mercy to the woman. We also see that our Lord's compassion does not condone sin, but rather implores all who receive His mercy to go and sin no more.
