I Text: Old Covenant : Psalm 51 New Covenant: Romans 3:9-18 II Doctrine: The recovery of the doctrine of Total Depravity is essential for the Christian Church. All human beings are completely affected by sin. Without the work of the Holy Ghost we are all warped in our mind, heart, soul, and strength. All churches who deny the problem of Man’s depravity will die a slow humanist death. They will eventually dethrone Jesus Christ and enthrone themselves as the masters of their salvation. Having Jesus as our redeemer always brings freedom, denying this always brings human sacrifice and slavery. III Reasons: 1) Do children need to be taught to be sinful? (Proverbs 22:6) 2) Are humanist Philosophers, and liberal Theologians correct in declaring man’s innocence? (Jeremiah 17:7-9) 3) Does History both past and present teach us Men can be trusted? Was the world “better off” before the Son of God invaded History? (Leviticus 18:6,7; 20-25) IV Application: 1) Acknowledging our complete brokenness before God keeps us close to Him. 2) If Men are only partially depraved we do not need a savior(Ezekiel 36:26; Isaiah 64:6-8) 3) The modern Church has progressed past the humanist principles of classic Arminianism. Even Arminius himself recognized the Total Depravity of Men. (John 1:12,13)
