There is such a thing as a “palm Sunday” religion. There are people who look to religion in order to get something. They are attracted to Jesus and religion not on a spiritual level (not for the blessing of a relationship with God) but looking to Christ for some earthly benefit. They are looking to Jesus for power, prestige, and success in THIS LIFE ONLY.
Today many of us mistake a Palm Sunday religion for true Christianity.
We come to Jesus. We do the right thing but for the wrong reason.
We come to Jesus not because we see our need. Not because we See ourselves as desperate sinners in need of a savior. As rebels facing the just judgment of a Holy and All-Powerful God.
No we see ourselves as pretty good. We are doing ok on our own BUT we could be a little better. And Jesus might make us a little better.
So we look to Jesus for what we can get now.
Palm Sunday religion treats Jesus, as a means to an end.
True Christianity recognizes that God Himself is the ultimate end. What is the chief end of man? To glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. Everything we do is for that purpose. The way we use our gifting, talents, resources is to glorify God. The excellence by which we do our jobs is ultimately not for our employer or customers but for God - to display our love for Him. The thankful and humble attitude that we have about this gifting and resources. The confident and faithful disposition by which we endue trials disappointments and adversity, all serve to bring God glory.
