Perhaps the best-known verse in all of Scripture is John 3:16. But it’s the truth contained in another 3:16 that comprises one of the church’s earliest creeds. “Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ was revealed in a human body and vindicated by the Spirit. He was seen by angels and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world and taken to heaven in glory” (1 Timothy 3:16, NLT). Some believe the words of 1 Timothy 3:16 were set to music, an early hymn to anchor believers to the glory of Jesus Christ. Today, this anchor still holds us secure in a world rebelling against God. The truth we stand on and proclaim to others is that God has been revealed in a human body, and His redemption of sinners like you and me is proven by Jesus’ empty tomb. He is risen!
