Great commission living can breed reluctance. How do you interpret painful pushback, suffering and hardships in your life? We know that God’s word says there’s no condemnation for those of us who are “in Christ.” We know that we have His Spirit in us, testifying with our spirit that we are His adopted children. We know we can cry out “Abba! Father!” But in the face of difficulties it’s tempting to question whether His heart toward us has possibly changed. If hard things are happening did He change His mind? Did He stop loving me? Did He turn away from me? “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” (Rom 8:18 NASB) In His word God assures us that being joined to Christ means that we are being prepared for glory. Based on the counsel of His word, we can be confident this preparation includes profound difficulties as we carry out the great commission.
