Ok, so we were all a little suspicious when our worship pastor Richard Rohlin (who has a nicely trimmed beard) begins the lesson with a Charles Spurgeon quote about beards. We had to wonder how he would get from there to something in the Bible about beards. But he did it! In 2 Samuel 10, David sends emissaries to Hanun (the son of Nahash). Hanun dishonors these emissaries by shaving off half of their beards. Richard explains the signficance of this act. In so doing, he helps us better appreciate what it meant when Christ in His sufferings for our sins had His own beard plucked out.
